Common School Dangers
Some common School Hazards to look out for.
It is of the utmost importance that all personnel are to understand their responsibilities for safety and learner well-being.
Safety management is about being pro-active in ensuring a safe school environment and includes procedures, policies, safety appointees, training, safety equipment and managerial oversight.
Although the principal is accountable for the school safety management, it is vital that support is given by appointees such as safety committee members, evacuation wardens and a safety co-ordinator.
The SA Schools Act, specifically Regulation R1128, requires that personnel must be able to extinguish a small fire to prevent harm and damage.
In 2007 a position was accepted to serve as safety liaison manager on the West Coast - in the retail sector. From there entry was made in the industrial sector, specifically operational safety in locomotive and protected vehicle manufacturing.
The South African Constitution recognizes the right to education as well as the right to an environment that is not harmful to the health or wellbeing of educators and learners.
